Kinase-active RPS6KB1 activates RPS6. 1 / 1

"Activation of S6K1 also occurs within minutes of initiation of signalling through mTOR. S6K1 phosphorylates ribosomal protein S6, which reportedly enhances the translation of mRNA with an uninterrupted string of pyrimidine residues adjacent to the 5k-cap structure (terminal oligopyrimidine mRNA; Meyuhas, 2000). Proteins encoded by such mRNA include ribosomal proteins, translation elongation factors and poly(A) binding protein. Thus, activation of S6K1 results in a rapid increase in the synthesis of a subset of proteins."
